Saturday 5th October 'Principles of Practice' 9 - 9:30AM Introduction to Yogic Breathing and Bandha Join Sarah for an introduction to yogic breathing (ujjayi pranayama) and a detailed discussion on bandha (internal locks). Learn about how to breathe with sound and only through the nose during yoga. Find out how and why breathing with sound is the music to ashtanga vinyasa yoga. The exploration of bandha will be a somatic investigation of the diaphragm, which is very useful and required for successful yogic breathing. break 9:45 - 11:45AM Led Primary Series All students are welcome for this guided class of the primary series of ashtanga yoga. This series is called "yoga chikitsa", yoga therapy due to the balancing effects of the asanas (postures) when done with the correct breath (ujjayi pranayama). Lunch break 11:45 - 2PM 2-2:30PM Yogic Philosophy: the Yoga Sutras Join Sarah for a Sanskrit and chanting session to discuss the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, specifically sutras 1.12, 1.13 and 1.14. What does it means to take soulful, dedicated and long-term practice? 2:30 - 4PM Backbending with the Heart In this workshop, we will explore the three classic backbends of the ashtanga yoga method: Upward-facing Dog, Purvottanasana (stretch of the East post) and Urdhva Dhanurasana (upward bow pose). Learn how to backbend with discernment using the correct alignment and breath. Discover how this will bring vitality and wellness to the respiratory system. Sunday 6th October "Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga and Philosophy" 8:30-11AM Mysore Class Join Sarah for a traditional Mysore Class. This class is open to anyone starting out, just getting going or already established in an ashtanga Mysore-style of practice. Sarah will offer demonstrations, verbal instruction and hands-on adjustments during this self practice class. Students can arrive anytime between 8:30 and 9AM to start their practice. Please plan to end your practice e by11AM. Invocation at 8:45AM 11 - 11:30AM Philosophy Discussion on Yoga Sutra 1.20 Sarah will continue from the previous day's discussion on the Yoga Sutras and add to the discussion on how to continue on the path of yoga. How can a daily practice bring us insight into what lays hidden in our lives We will look to sutra 1.20 to learn more about what is needed to make a practice soulful, reliable, safe and transformational. No previous knowledge of yoga sutra philosophy or chanting is required for this informative discussion on yoga.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation Policy for courses, workshops or events with a guest teacher : you may cancel any booking by emailing Gabriella up to 30 days before the start date and receive a full refund, but when cancelling within 29 - 8 days a cancellation fee of 10% will incur. For cancellations within 7 days of the start date, no refund will be offered.(unless there is a waiting list and your booking can be transferred to another attendee. In the case of a booking being transferred, a full refund may be offered minus a cancellation fee of 20%) Unfortunately Ashtanga Yoga Belfast cannot be held responsible for unforeseen circumstances (such as weather or transport problems) that lead to the participant being unable to attend the scheduled course or workshop.
